A letter from GDC President Billy Nicholson

Coaches,

It is my hope that all of you had a very restful summer and got to do some things you wanted to do. That is so vitally important in our profession and a lot of times goes unchecked by us. Whether it’s spending time with family, friends or doing any hobby outside of baseball, it is vitally important to our health that we take the time to do those things before and after the season. I had the pleasure to work with USA Baseball again this summer and was chosen to participate as a coach at the inaugural USA PDP/MLB League held at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida and then onto the inaugural MLB High School All Star Game at Progressive Field the weekend prior to the MLB All Star Game. While participating in this, I got to see a lot of our incredible talent on display from Georgia. It was truly an honor to represent not only my school, but the Georgia Dugout Club and the state of Georgia in this event and on this stage.

As we gear up for the 2020 season, I want to let you know there are some new and exciting changes coming to Georgia high school baseball. From the Georgia Dugout Club Hall of Fame Wall going up at Suntrust Park, to doing a Saturday session of our Georgia Dugout Club Clinic at Suntrust Park with speaker sessions, to now being allowed to have the flexibility of the DH and the ability for our sub-varsity teams to have the freedom of batting 10 and unlimited re-entries in the game. All are positive changes for not only the growth of the Georgia Dugout Club, but high school baseball in the state of Georgia overall. It’s truly exciting to see how we are growing and promoting high school baseball in our state.

Please make sure you are receiving the news and update emails that Jeff Segars sends out on behalf of the Georgia Dugout Club. It has a lot of vital information in it that helps keep all of us informed. If you have not been receiving those, please contact either Jeff or myself immediately.

Wishing you and your teams the best of luck this spring and I look forward to seeing everyone at the clinic in January. As always, if I can be of assistance to you or your program, please do not hesitate to reach out to me.

Sincerely,

Billy Nicholson

President
