Mongero, Strickland, players honored by ABCA

Former North Hall coach Trent Mongero and Marist coach Mike Strickland will be honored at the upcoming American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) Convention in January in Indianapolis.

Mongero, who guided North Hall to the Georgia High School Association Class 3A state championship in 2017, left to become the new coach at Glynn Academy. He guided North Hall to its first state championship in school history and finished with a 30-11 record. He will be honored as the ABCA Division III Coach of the Year.

Strickland took Marist to the GHSA Class 4A championship and finished with a 25-17 record. It was his third state title during his tenure at Marist. He will be honored as the ABCA Division I Regional Coach of the Year.

A handful of Georgia players will also be honored by the ABCA. Westfield's Cole Brannen was selected to the Gold Glove Team.

Meanwhile, Cross Creek catcher Luis Campusano and Etowah outfielder Drew Waters were named to the first team, Valdosta pitcher DL Hall was a second-teamer and Griffin's Terry Fuller was selected to the third team.
