Howard inducted into GACA Hall of Fame

Bobby Howard, the state's all-time winningest baseball coach, was inducted into the Georgia Athletic Coaches Association Hall of Fame on June 1 at a ceremony in Dalton.

The Saint Anne-Pacelli coach is the state's only high school coach with 1,000 victories. Howard coached at Jordan, Kendrick, Columbus High and Central High in Phenix City, Ala. His greatest success came at Columbus High where he led the Blue Devils to 12 state championships in 31 seasons. He notched 819 victories.

He currently has a career high school coaching record of 1,003-307. That total does not include the 40 games he won while coaching for one season at Middle Georgia College in 1997.

The GACA induction puts Howard into six Halls of Fame as a prep baseball coach -- the American Baseball Coaches Association Hall of Fame, the Baseball Coaches Association Hall of Fame, the Georgia Dugout Club, the Chattahoochee Valley Sports Hall of Fame and the Sunbelt Classic Hall of Fame.

He is a member of the Columbus State University and Jordan High School Halls of Fame as a player.
