Georgia coaches honored by ABCA

Pike County coach Don Hanson, who guided his Pirates to the GHSA Class 3A state championship,

was named the ABCA/Diamond High School Division II Region 3 Coach of the Year.

 

Georgia coaches honored by ABCA

 

A trio of state coaches have received prestigious honors from the American Baseball Coaches Association.

Georgia Gwinnett College head coach Brad Stromdahl was named the ABCA/Diamond NAIA Regional Coach of the Year after guiding the Grizzlies to their third NAIA College World Series appearance in program history. Georgia Gwinnett finished in the semifinals and matched its deepest run in school history under Stromdahl's leadership in 2019.

A pair of prep coaches have also been honored.

Parkview head coach Chan Brown was named the ABCA/Diamond High School Division I Region 3 Coach of the Year after helping lead Parkview to a second straight Georgia Class 7A state championship. It was the school's third state championship in the past five seasons.

And Pike County's Don Hanson, who led the Pirates to the Georgia Class 3A state championship, was named the ABCA/Diamond High School Division II Region 3 Coach of the Year after helping the Pirates to their first state baseball title in school history.

The Regional Coaches of the Year will be honored on Friday, Jan. 3 in the main clinic hall prior to the start of clinics at the 76th annual ABCA Convention, which will be held Jan. 2-5, 2020 in Nashville, Tennessee.
